Shadow and Ice
(Gods of War #1)
Publication Date: October 23, 2018
Mass Market, 384 pages, HQN
Genres: Adult, Romance, Paranormal, Fantasy

Gena Showalter, the New York Times bestselling author who brought you the Lords of the Underworld, introduces a scorching new paranormal romance series… Gods of War.

Knox of Iviland has spent his life competing in the All Wars, where vicious warriors with supernatural powers fight to the death to claim new realms. One winner takes everything—and all losers die. Enslaved as a child for his ability to control shadows, the most ruthless champion in history will stop at nothing to kill his king. But first he must win the battle for Earth. When a fearsome weapon imprisons every combatant in ice, centuries pass without progress…until she walks in.

Vale London craves a fun arctic getaway with her foster sister before settling down to open a bakery. Street-tough but vulnerable, she is unprepared to find ancient gods escaping a frozen cave—merciless beings who target her when she inadvertently enters their war.

Though Vale is now his enemy, Knox is consumed with lust and a fierce need to protect her. But only one combatant can prove victorious, and he will have to choose: live for freedom, or die for love.

My Thoughts

The colors are very pretty for this one, and the model is super nice to look at, but I don’t know. I was expecting a little more. It’s kind of the typical romance cover. I was crossing my fingers for more fantasy/paranormal than that, though.

Sherwood
Meagan Spooner
Publication Date: March 19, 2019
Hardcover, 352 pages, HarperTeen
Genres: YA, Retelling, Fantasy

Robin of Locksley is dead.

When news comes that he's fallen in battle at the King's side in the Holy Land, Maid Marian doesn’t know how she’ll go on. Betrothed to Robin, she was free to be herself, to flaunt the stifling rules of traditional society and share an equal voice with her beloved when it came to caring for the people of her land.

Now Marian is alone, with no voice of her own. The people of Locksley, persecuted by the Sheriff of Nottingham, are doomed to live in poverty or else face death by hanging. The dreadful Guy of Gisborne, the Sherriff’s right hand, wishes to step into Robin’s shoes as Lord of Locksley, and Marian’s fiancĂ©. Society demands that she accept her fate, and watch helplessly as her people starve.

When Marian dons Robin's green cloak, and takes up his sword and bow, she never intended that anyone should mistake her for Robin, returned from the Holy Land as a vigilante. She never intended that the masked, cloaked figure she created should stand as a beacon of hope and justice to peasant and noble alike. She never intended to become a legend.

But all of Nottingham is crying out for a savior. So Marian must choose to make her own fate and become her own hero...

Robin Hood.

My Thoughts

This one has a really pretty cover. I’m actually very intrigued now. The other retelling book Spooner wrote, Hunted, has a similar cover, and it’s pretty too. I’m thinking I should definitely get my hands on this one. I liked Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen, so I’ll probably enjoy this one.

20th Anniversary US Harry Potter Covers

My Thoughts

Umm… Okay, so I’ve never been a fan of Brian Selznick’s artwork. It’s just too dry for me. The black and white is so boring for Harry Potter. It doesn’t fit with the tone of Hogwarts. I actually don’t plan on buying these. I’ll stick to the other HP editions.
