Female Characters I Want to Be Like

There are some really awesome female characters out there these days. They’re not only in books, but movies and television too. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorites and a few quick thoughts on why I want to be like them.

These are in no particular order.

     Hermione Granger from Harry Potter

She knows everything. And while I’d like to think that I’m pretty smart, I would love to have Ms. Granger’s brains. Plus, she’s a witch. How cool would that be?

Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games

I’m not a fan of how Katniss deals with her emotions. She can get annoying in that regard. BUT, she doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do, despite being in a horrible situation. That’s what I want to have, the courage to tell people no and to stand up for what’s right.

Hayley Marshall and Rebekah Mikaelson from The Originals

Hayley has had a rough time of things. She was pregnant with Klaus’s child and had all kinds of things happening to her, but in this current season, she’s not letting any of that stand in her way. I won't get into any more for fear of spoilage.

Rebekah is awesome in this show and The Vampire Diaries. Sure, she’s not the nicest vampire around, but she is not afraid to keep fighting for what she wants. She doesn’t always care who gets in her way, either. And I can respect that, to an extent.

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

What a freakin’ bada$$. She definitely didn’t start out that way, but she totally got there. She has taken control and led her people, and while she doesn’t always make the wisest decisions, she owns her mistakes. She’s just so fierce.

     Felicity Smoak from Arrow

I love Felicity. She’s, at times, the only reason I really watch this show. She may not have cool supernatural powers like some of the other women on this list, but she can pretty much kick everyone’s butts in her own way—through technology. Without her, the Arrow is nothing.

***

I'm sure I'm missing one hundred others, so tell me, do you agree with my choices? Are there others you would add to the list? Sound off in the comments!

Waiting on Wednesday: A Book of Spirits and Thieves by Morgan Rhodes

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, what's really got my pages in a twist is...

A Book of Spirits and Thieves
(Spirits and Thieves #1)
Publication Date: June 23, 2015
Hardcover, Razorbill
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

New York Times bestselling author Morgan Rhodes takes readers into exhilarating new high-fantasy territory with A BOOK OF SPIRITS AND THIEVES. Written in alternating perspectives that shift between modern-day Toronto and the ancient kingdoms of Mytica, Rhodes masterfully weaves the dark, magical world of her Falling Kingdoms series into an epic contemporary saga that will leave you breathless.

Modern-day Toronto: A heavy leather-bound book written in an unrecognizable language is delivered to the Speckled Muse, the antique bookshop owned by Crystal and Becca Hatcher’s mother. When Becca opens it, she’s sent into a coma, leaving Crys behind to uncover a series of terrifying secrets.

Ancient Mytica: A merciless goddess hunts for the elusive treasure that will make her ruler not only of Mytica, but of all the unseen worlds that lay beyond it.

Modern-day Toronto: Rich and aimless Farrell Grayson finally has the chance to prove himself when the mysterious leader of a powerful secret society invites him into his fold.

Ancient Mytica: Maddox Corso has always been different, but never remarkable. Everything changes the day he meets a pretty, unfamiliar girl from a faraway land, only to realize that he’s the only one who can see her.

Fate has brought these young people together, but ancient magic threatens to rip them apart.

My Thoughts

I’m not sure how I feel about this to be honest. I’ve only read the first book in the Falling Kingdoms series and I wasn’t OMG excited about it, so I don’t know if a spin-off series that’s so different is really going to capture my attention. The cover is gorgeous though. What do you think?

Finals Time and December TBR

It’s FINALS time! Yay! NOT.

For the past month, I haven’t been able to read a book that isn’t for my class. I just want to pick up Snow Like Ashes, or Exquisite Captive, or even The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan, but I can’t! I won’t be able to until this Thursday night. Ugh! Book nerd problems, man.

So, I just wanted to say to all of you peeps out there having the same issue, you are not alone. Feel free to rant and rave your book-related, time-constraint issues right here, right now. I will not judge. ;)

Since it’s finals time, this post and lately, my blog, is kind of short and sweet, basically because I have no books to review (because I haven’t read any). I’m just going to list some of the books I plan on reading this month as soon as December 12th comes around, all the way up until January 10th.

My December/January TBR:

1.      As I said earlier, Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
2.      Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios
3.      Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout
4.      The Darkest Touch by Gena Showalter
5.      Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
6.      Heaven by Alexandra Adornetto
7.      Vengeance Bound by Justina Ireland
8.      The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
9.      A Want So Wicked by Suzanne Young
10.  Perfect Lies by Kiersten White (I just finished this one. Yay!)

Into the Woods and Cinderella Trailers

I had no idea Disney was even making such a thing until I watched the trailer. Let me just say that the hotness that is Chris Pine combined with the hilariousness of Johnny Depp, the coolness that is Anna Kendrick and the awesomeness that is Disney means that this movie is going to be epic!

I love all of the combined actors and the storylines. It’s like Once Upon a Time but 100 times more fantastic! Hurry up and get here Christmas!

Then there's also the new Cinderella live-action movie! I wouldn't be so excited to see this except it's got Robb Stark in it! He's Prince Charming! Yay!

Which Team Are You? : The Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent Edition

I basically just post a book series every week and have people vote on what team they are. I know the YA Sisterhood does the YA Crush Tournament, but I just want to find out how much you guys like one love interest over another, in one series.

Last week's poll was over Team Jamie or Team Frank from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Team Jame won by a landslide!

So for this edition of “What Team Are You?” I’m going to ask you who your pick of hunky man-flesh is from The Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent.

You can choose from:

1)      Tod

or 2) Nash

I’m Team Tod! He’s so much nicer and sweeter and sexier than his little brother. I just want him all to myself. If you had to choose one, who would it be, and why? If you haven’t read the books (And why haven’t you?), who do you think sounds more appealing from the My Soul to Take summary below.

She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

Dean Winchester Friday

Dean Winchester (or sometimes Jensen Ackles) Fridays make me a very happy fangirl. You'll see why when you look at the picture.

*Giggles* and dies laughing. But he’s still so very hot.

Thoughts on the Insurgent Teaser Trailer

I thought I’d share my thoughts about the Insurgent teaser trailer with you. I know, I know. It’s been out for a while now. I’m lazy, sue me. Or don’t, because then I couldn’t buy books.

So, I don’t remember a lot from Insurgent or any of the other books really, besides the basic plot. But I seriously don’t remember this scene. If anyone would like to remind me, that would be great.

I don’t like the haircut. I know that’s a weird thing to mention, but I just don’t. For one thing, her hair is a lighter color. How is that supposed to happen on the run? I think it’s a cute cut, I just don’t really see it as Tris. I know she cuts her hair, but I was thinking more functional, less stylish if you know what I mean.

My major issue with this trailer though is the CGI stuff. It’s all obviously fake. It’s ridiculous. How could they think that was in any way realistic?

Those are some of my thoughts. I know they all seem negative, but I was never a huge fan of the second book. The first was good, the middle okay, the last was absolutely terrible.

What are your thoughts?

Waiting on Wednesday: Dangerous Deception by Garcia and Stohl

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, what's really got my pages in a twist is...

Dangerous Deception
(Dangerous Creatures #2)
Publication Date: May 19, 2015
Hardcover, 352 pages, Little Brown
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Love is ten kinds a crazy, right?
Let me put it to you this way: If you can get away, run. Don't walk.
Because once you're exposed, you'll never get a Siren outta your head.

Some loves are cursed. Others are...dangerous. Especially the love between wannabe rocker and quarter Incubus, Wesley "Link" Lincoln, and Dark Caster, Siren, and bonafide bad girl, Ridley Duchannes.

But now Ridley is missing, and Link was with her-right up until she vanished. Determined to find her, Link reunites with his New York bandmates and the mysterious Lennox Gates, who wants Rid for himself. Together they travel to the deep south, find the crossroads where blues guitarist Robert Johnson made his deal with the devil, discover a menagerie of Casters locked in cages, and uncover an evil in New Orleans that threatens to destroy them all.

This time, love might not be enough.

My Thoughts

I haven’t read Dangerous Creatures yet, but I’m going to, and when I do... Dangerous Deception should be prepared.

What book are you waiting for this Wednesday?

Cyber Monday? Black Friday? Thoughts?

I’m curious. I actually ordered some books Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend. I only ordered from Book Outlet because they had a coupon and the books were like $3 each. Then I got to thinking about Black Friday at other stores and I had some questions.

Do stores (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) sell discounted books on Black Friday? Do they just push the books to the back-burner? Because that’s just sad.

My questions for you guys, are:

Do you go Black Friday shopping for books? Or Cyber Monday shopping?

Where did you/do you find the best deals?

The DUFF Movie Trailer and My Quick Thoughts

I really enjoyed The DUFF book, so I'm curious about the movie. Plus, Robbie Amell is hot.

I think it's great that the idea of the movie stayed the same. I just wish it was less about shaming Bianca. Bianca shouldn't have to do all of the makeup/hair/whatever it is that Wesley points out. I don't remember him doing that in the book. I don't like the She's All That - guy remakes girl into the "perfect" girl, and completely changes who she is in the process, and doesn't care about her inner beauty - vibe they're throwing out in the trailer. But, other than that, I like the cast, the jokes, etc.

What do you think? Will you watch it?
