Pinterest Sunday: The TBR Jar

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with you all that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

This particular craft is really all over the place. More than likely if you’re a book lover who follows any kind of book blogs, Booktubers, etc., then you’ve already heard of this particular craft. I’m just sharing it with you because I have yet to make one, and I really think I should.

This TBR jar image you see was taken by Veronica Serpa over at The More That You Learn.

I know, I know. How can any self-respecting book blogger not have a TBR jar already?! I just find the idea of forcing myself to read a book painful and icky. That’s kind of why I’ve stopped accepting review requests lately. (That and I am terribly behind on them. Ugh.)

I’m not sure what my TBR jar would look like, but think I would have to do the whole colored paper bit. It would be too boring to put regular slips of paper in it. I know there’d be over 100 book titles in the jar, so I would definitely have to get a pretty large container.

It would be kind of cool to have distinct colors for each genre of books. Like each fantasy title would be green and contemporary yellow. This would just help if I knew I wasn’t in the mood to read a certain genre.

One of these days I’ll actually get around to making one of these. It’ll be really fun, and even if I don’t actually use it, at least it will look cool on my shelves! XD

What do you guys think? Would you do this? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Or have you already made your own TBR jar? If so, you should show me a pic so I can steal ideas from you. ;)

Pinterest Sunday: Harry Potter Wands

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with ya’ll that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The craft I want to share today was posted by Gretchen over at Boxy Colonial. I’ve actually already done this particular craft at my Harry Potter party, which you can check out here. My roommate actually used these directions for us to make our very own wands, just like these:

This is a great craft for book clubs or just a night of hanging out. Besides owning a glue gun, all you need is brown colored paints and some of those weird sticks from the craft section of Walmart.

Mine from the party turned out a little more dark and loopy than I originally intended, but I like it. It makes great bookish décor. Of course, the Hermione wand I bought from Ollivander’s is cooler, but this one is MINE. Check it out:

So, what do you guys think? Would you do this? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Sound off in the comments.

Pinterest Sunday: DIY Bookish Cards

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with ya’ll that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The craft I want to share today was posted by Popsugar and is ridiculously cute. I don’t know about you, but I don’t actually make cards all that often. I usually buy mine or use online event stuff to invite people anywhere. But this craft totally makes me want to throw a party, just so I can use these cards:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/575405289865779315/

Can you imagine how cool a Harry Potter card like this would be? A silhouette of Harry waving his wand with Hedwig flying above or Hogwarts in the background? Or even the Pevensie kids under the lamppost? B-E-A-U-ITFUL. Of course, the Alice in Wonderland ones are cute too. It makes me want to have a kid, just so I can make their party Alice in Wonderland themed.

Now, other than printing out the text and folding the paper into an envelope shape, I’m not sure what exact steps are involved in this process. (I don’t know if I’d rip the pages of a book out to make these… I would have to definitely be having a themed party to spend money on a book and then destroy it just for some cards I’m not going to keep.) I can’t tell what paper they’re using. I would probably go for the heavier papers for the silhouette overlay, but I wouldn’t use construction paper. It’s too fuzzy.

If you can think of any other cool images that could be used, or that you want to use, definitely let me know!

So, what do you guys think? Would you do this? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Sound off in the comments.

Pinterest Sunday: Photo Bookmarks

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with ya’ll that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The craft I want to share today was posted by Kate over at Nearly Crafty. I think all of us booklovers not-so-secretly also want to own the biggest supply of bookmarks known to man. (Every book should have its own bookmark, am I right?) So here’s another way to make your own cute bookmarks:

I don’t normally have kids, so I wouldn’t be using toddlers as my image. I was thinking of using a Jensen Ackles/Dean Winchester image, or maybe even a Toothless or Harry Potter image if I can find the right one.

I get colored printing at my school, so it wouldn’t be hard to print the images, paste them onto cardstock, punch a piece of string through, and voilà!

If you can think of any other cool images that could be used, or that you want to use, definitely let me know!

So, what do you guys think? Would you do this? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Sound off in the comments.

P.S. I found the image of Harry here. This is such a cool site with so many cool HP images.

Pinterest Sunday: Bookish Candles

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with you all that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The craft I want to share today was posted by Tara Block over at PopSugar and another part of it was posted by Sarah over at Arrow and Apple. I want my entire apartment to be covered in bookish décor. Is that weird? Didn’t think so. Check out the pics of my newest decoration desire:

I don’t normally like candles, so having a mason jar or something and using the electric candles instead would be really cute. I would LOVE to do all seven Harry Potter books or even the Narnia ones. Of course, that means buying the books again.

I found these pics of the mason jar and how to make them from Arrow and Apple. I couldn’t find the how-to process for PopSugar’s.

I think I could get some cheap ones at a used book library sale. Hmm… This may be possible.

If you can think of any other cool bookish candle ideas I should mull over making, you should let me know.

Pinterest Sunday: Fabric Book Covers

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with you all that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The craft I want to share today was posted by Marelize over at Stitch by Stitch. This fabric book cover is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and it looks easy to do. As you can see in the picture below:

I always want to take a book with me, but I’m afraid of injuring my books, especially paperbacks. While this type of fabric book cover wouldn’t work for paperbacks, it would definitely allow me to take my hardback books around campus so I can read between classes or work. I have some fabric I could use to make this, I just need to get on it.

I like the way these look, but I think I may approach the creation a little differently. I don’t plan on using anything but thread and fabric. Mostly because I don’t have an iron or know what that other stuff she mentions is.

If you can think of any other cool book cover ideas I should mull over making, you should let me know.

What do you guys think? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Sound off in the comments.

Pinterest Sunday: Harry Potter Graduation Caps

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with you all that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The craft I want to share today was listed on Teen.com and was actually created by a lot of different creative people. These are some awesome graduation caps that I really want to try to make. As you can see in the picture below:

http://www.teen.com/2015/05/21/movies/harry-potter-diy-graduation-caps-ideas-pictures/

I’m graduating in five months and I think it would be really cool to decorate my cap with something fandom-related. That’s the only way I would do it, simply because I like puns and witty comments. I tried the pretty graduation cap decoration in high school and I ended up not liking it, so funny stuff it is.

If you can think of any other cool graduation cap ideas I should mull over using, you should let me know.

I know some people think decorating your college graduation cap is lame, but if I figure out the right idea, I’m going to do it.

What do you guys think? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Sound off in the comments.

Pinterest Sunday: Bookish Maps

I have decided that Sundays will now be Pinterest days. What does that mean? It means every Sunday I’ll be sharing a bookish craft with you all that I found on Pinterest.

Obviously, none of these craft ideas were created by me, and I’ll give the creator the credit he or she deserves. I just want to share some cool and fun—and maybe even new—craft ideas with you. And maybe I’ll even scrounge up the willpower to actually do the craft one day. Who knows?

The first craft I want to share was listed on a Buzzfeed article and was actually created by Amy over at the Milk and Cookies blog. She found a way to create awesome maps. As you can see in the picture below:

http://milkandcookiesblog.com/geek-projects-narnia-middle-earth-doctor-who-star-trek-and-beyond/

The image links to the how-to page, but here it is again, just in case.

I’ve actually already started this craft, I simply need to finish it. If you see the bookshelf in my apartment, you would also see the maps sitting on the tops shelf. I’ve attempted to create a Narnia and a Hogwarts map (I'd take a pic, but I'm not at my apartment right now). I think they turned out pretty well. I found the wood from Walmart in the craft section, which was ridiculously expensive ($4 per piece), so I only bought two. I have maps printed for Westeros, Middle Earth, Alagaesia, and even of Erilea.

If you can think of any other cool maps I should add to this project (once I determine myself financially stable enough to buy the wood), you should let me know.

I’m hoping to get all of them done before I move out of my apartment, so I can hang them up when I get into my new one. They’ll look ridiculously cool when they’re all together. I don’t think I’ll be using any white wood, though. I don’t like the mix. Oh, and I did have the extra flaps of paper tucked behind the wood, I just Mod Podged the cut-out map on there.
