Life Updates (AKA Job News)

So that job news that I said I’d share, it’s finally time for me to share it.

During the month of September, I was working for Scholastic Trade Books as a temp. It was a three-week position that ended on the first day of October. After that, I got another temp job in Manhattan for a few days. And, later in the month, I got another temp job with Scholastic in the education group. That position was supposed to last six months, BUT…

I got a new, permanent job in publishing. I am now the Assistant to the Managing Editor at…

So basically, I work Macmillan now in the Flatiron Building. Yay!

I only started last week, and I’m still currently learning the ropes.

Also, can we please take a minute to compare my job title to a certain character from The Office.

When I realized this, I couldn’t stop giggling. I am officially Dwight Schrute. Mwahaha.

I also wanted to share this news just in case I have any more unexplained absences from blogging. I was super busy this month juggling my temp job with Scholastic, getting ready to transfer to Macmillan/Tor, and Thanksgiving, so I should be around more now that that’s all over.

Well, there you have it. That’s my news. :)

My Very Crazy and New Brooklyn Life

As I mentioned in some of my previous posts, I moved to Brooklyn this month!

In case you don’t realize how monumental that is, I’ve lived in Missouri my entire life. I also drove cross-country with my roommate when I’ve never driven outside of Missouri before. My dad drove me and my stuff to Illinois to meet up with my roomie, and we drove a Uhaul from Illinois to Brooklyn, NY. It was a very eventful trip. There was laughter, tears, and Disney songs.

Now, I moved to New York so I could work in book publishing. I don’t have a job yet and my money is slowly dwindling, but I think I’m going to get some work soon. It may just be a slower process than I would have hoped for.

Anyway, I thought I’d share some pictures of the new apartment with you. Obviously, I didn’t share any pics of the bathrooms or my roommates’ bedrooms because that would be awkward.

This is my bedroom. As you can see, I used the same bedspread and sheet set that I’ve had since my freshman year of college. I’m also using plastic bins as bookshelves and nightstands. It’s a truly nightmarish experience. Hopefully, I can get a job, simply so I can buy myself a decent bookshelf.

I contributed very little to the living room. My Supernatural blanket and Hogwarts pillows are the only things I added to the overall décor here. The couch was gifted to us by a neighbor though, so that was cool. #freestuffftw

The last room really is the living room too since they’re both connected. This is the messy kitchen. There’s very little counter space.

So, yes, my life has been crazily upheaved in the past few months. If you’ve been trying to get ahold of me about blog-related things, or if you’ve commented and I haven’t responded (I think I’m caught up, but I’m not 100% sure), then please just message me again.

What crazy antics have you gotten up to over the summer? Let me know in the comments below!

I'm Going to Publishing School in NYC! ... HELP! Please?

Okay, ya'll, this is going to be a quick update post with a plea for help thrown in for good measure.

Recently, I was accepted to New York University's Summer Publishing Institute (SPI). SPI is a six-week intensive program that basically teaches its students the ins and outs of magazine and book publishing. Because my dream goal is to be an editor for a major publishing company, this is huge! I'm going to learn how to work at a job I really want!

Now, SPI only accepts roughly 100 students, so, once again, this is huge. However, there is the small problem of finances. Aka, I have very little. Okay, okay. That's somewhat of a lie. I have enough to actually pay the $5,600 for the tuition and most of the $1,800 or so for the housing. What I don't have is enough money to eat and buy plane tickets and a subway metro card and a taxi trip to my residence hall and new professional clothes and on and on the list goes.

All of that being said, I would be EXTREMELY grateful to anyone who is willing to donate even the itty-bittiest amount to my cause. I even set up a GoFundMe page for awesome people like you to do just that. You can check it out here: https://funds.gofundme.com/dashboard/publishing-school-in-new-york

The link is also in the right-hand sidebar of my blog, just in case the widget isn't working in the post.

I've dreamed of working in publishing for a very long time, and I don't want anything to hold me back from killing it in NYC, especially finances.

If you're thinking about donating but you have some questions, definitely leave a comment below and I'll get to them. You can also contact me through Twitter or email if you need a more private messaging system.

Also, I'm going to try to post periodically, but things are getting really busy right now. March and April are very hectic times for graduate students, so blogging isn't at the top of my to-do list. Just know that if I disappear for a while, I'm not dead (unless grad school killed me).
