Stacking the Shelves: The Back From Break Edition

"Stacking the Shelves" is a weekly haul meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It allows book buyers to share their accumulation of books with the online book-loving community.

Stacking the Shelves seems to be the only thing I regularly post. Although, I've been back into reviewing this year, so hurrah for me. I was pretty sparse on the blog there for a while. But, I skipped posting anything last week since it was my birthday. I needed some me time. So now, I'm back from a break, and ready to show the bookish goodies.

The first book I got actually came last week, while the others all arrived this week. My Barnes & Noble preorder of Laura Thalassa's Bewitched arrived. Well, technically, it was shipped to my parents' house, and my mom dropped the package off. Now, I have the first three books in this series, so I can binge it. I'm not sure what order they should be read in and how many are left, but I believe this one is first and there's a prequel somewhere in the mix.

Up next, I have something that took a long time getting to me. I think I ordered Jess Wisecup's Feather from the Sky and Thorns From the Fall books back in like May from her website. They kept saying they were going to ship in early July, and I got no information for it. Eventually, I got through to the author, and she explained there was a delay, but it took a lot of work to figure out who I was supposed to contact. I'm glad I finally have these though. She also sent some cute swag with the order.

Here, I have the August YA and Romantasy FairyLoot subscription books. The first is Immortal Consequences by I.V. Marie. I'm kind of disappointed in this cover. It's just... meh. I don't like the washed out orange/teal color palette. I'm pretty sure FairyLoot has done this kind of color scheme a couple of times now. I think a Chloe Gong book had a similar design, and I didn't like it then either. I'm also kind of disappointed in the cover of Brigid Kemmerer's Warrior Princess Assassin as well. Don't get me wrong, the character artwork is very pretty, it just doesn't scream ROMANTASY. It's giving YA art. I wish they'd put this artwork on the endpapers and put a more simplistic design on the cover. It's still beautiful though. Just not what I'd hoped for.

Next, I have artwork that was included in the Arcane Society sub box featuring the first two books in the Kindred's Curse series by Penn Cole. Now, I didn't love the design of the books, but I renewed my sub because I hadn't bought anything all year, and you have to buy at least one order to retain early-access privileges. Truthfully, I haven't been in love with a lot of Arcane's sub box designs lately, unfortunately. So, when they announced book three would be sold for $75 (shipping not included), I pretty much immediately sold my books when they landed on my doorstep. I just kept the artwork and the pin that came with the box.

Well, that's all for me. What books have you bought/received lately?

  1. Ooh nice! Hope you had a nice birthday too! I ended up getting Bewitched and the second book with their original covers when Amazon had them on sale. Think it was during Prime day then I saw the new covers and was just like eh, I'll keep my OG ones. Need to read them though to see if getting the new ones is needed for matching purposes. Lol. I was a little meh on FL's cover for the YA book as well. Now that you mention it, it does resemble the Chloe Gong book they did, I think it was her adult book as I have that one in my "sell once I get around to creating a seller's account somewhere" pile. I'll probably keep Immortal Consequences for awhile at least. Warrior Princess Assassin does kind of give off eh vibes. Like you said, the cover art is very pretty but not what I would expect from a FL cover. For some reason with FL I just don't care for characters on the cover as much. Mostly in general too, although there are always exceptions!

The rest are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them since they took such a lengthy time to get to you. I get when authors are printing things themselves through a third party and it can be stressful on their end. But sometimes just reaching out to your customers to say "there's been a delay" does go a long way. The stress I would have if something hadn't arrived when it was supposed to and there was no communication. At least with FL they give a wider window for delivery and post updates on their site for these kinds of things.

Hope you enjoy all of your lovely new reads!

My StS will be up tomorrow, stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!
