A Book I'm Thankful For: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Once a week, in the month of November, I’m going to share a book that I’m thankful for. Today’s book is one that I’m sure a lot of people are thankful for. And it is…

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
(Harry Potter #1)
Publication Date: October 7, 2014
Hardcover, 310 pages, Scholastic
Genres: Fantasy, YA/MG

Harry Potter has never played a sport while flying on a broomstick. He's never worn a Cloak of Invisibility, befriended a giant, or helped hatch a dragon. All Harry knows is a miserable life with the Dursleys, his horrible aunt and uncle, and their abominable son, Dudley. Harry's room is a tiny cupboard under the stairs, and he hasn't had a birthday party in ten years.

But all that is about to change when a mysterious letter arrives by owl messenger: a letter with an invitation to a wonderful place he never dreamed existed. There he finds not only friends, aerial sports, and magic around every corner, but a great destiny that's been waiting for him... if Harry can survive the encounter.

My Thoughts

This book and its sequels will always have a place in my heart. And as cheesy as that sounds, you know it’s probably true for you, or at least someone you know, too. I read these books when I was a youngling (because I’m so old now, right?) and I can’t believe that I used to have to wait for each book to come out. Without Harry Potter, I’m sure my reading life wouldn’t be nearly as exciting.

What book are you thankful for this Thursday?
