I just realized something, about three and a half years ago I was blissfully oblivious. To what? you ask. The book blogging world. I used to be able to walk in a bookstore, browse around, and pick up a random book. Granted, that didn't always go in my favor, but it was kind of exciting. Now however, I know what's out, what I want, and if I should buy it.
So I just want to ask one question, Do you miss just being able to walk in a bookstore and grab a random book without knowing who the author actually is, or if it sounded swell on Goodreads?
I totally get what you mean, however, there is still the opportunity to walk into a bookstore and try a different genre you're not used to, so that you can try something new and be surprised :). That's exactly what I do! I have also tried walking into a section I really enjoy, and instead of buying a specific book I want, I close my eyes, walk up to a bookshelf and choose. I already know what's on the table more or less, but it's still a great way to keep things interesting :).
ReplyDeleteI don't miss it at all! Now I can walk into a bookstore and grab copies of books I know I will be happy with as opposed to grabing random books that don't make me happy. I do still grab random books by authors I haven't heard of but it's rare. Regardless of my thoughts about the book I donate a large percentage to my local library. So it's a win win no matter what.

I think there is so much out there that I would still find something new and of interest in the bookstore, or at least new-to-me. The thing I miss is going to get something new to read. Now I have all these wonderful review books (which I love) and no excuse to go the bookstore.
ReplyDeleteI love to browse around Amazon for bargains for my Kindle, but I do miss wandering around clueless in the bookstore as well.

I was stuck reading stupid little old lady mysteries that either had food, animals or farms in the title. I felt so stupid buying them. They were fluff and they weren't even that good. Once I hit Twilight and the Vampire Diaries, I read my first blog and never looked back! I now have close to 100 books in my TBR stack where I once had none! And I couldn't be happier because though I might not love every one of them, I know something about each of them and hand picked each one knowing full well what they were about. And most of them were pre orders so there weren't any reviews on them.
