Troy High Review

Troy High by Shana Norris
Homer’s Iliad, the classic tale of love and revenge, is shrewdly retold for teens in Troy High. Narrated by Cassie, a shy outsider who fears that an epic high school rivalry is about to go up in flames, the story follows the Trojans and Spartans as they declare war on the football field. After the beautiful Elena—who used to be the captain of the Spartan cheerleaders—transfers to Troy High and falls madly in love with Cassie’s brother Perry, the Spartans vow that the annual homecoming game will never be forgotten. The Trojans and Spartans pull wicked pranks on each other as homecoming approaches. And the Spartans’ wildcard football star, Ackley, promises to take down the Trojans’ offensive line. But the stakes are raised when Cassie is forced to choose between the boy she loves (a Spartan) and loyalty to her family and school. Troy High will seduce readers with its incendiary cast of mythic proportions.

My Review:

I loved this book! I'm a sucker for anything involving Greek mythology and this book was just too good to be true!

You start off with a character who is relatable to all teenage girls, Cassie Prince (a.k.a. Cassandra the Seer, princess of Troy), she feels left out, shy, awkward and frustrated (Okay so that's only some teenage girls, okay maybe it's just me!).

Cassie has a best friend, Greg or Agamenon, brother of Menelaus, commander in chief of the Greeks. Whenever a girl has a boy best friend you know what's bound to happen, a forbidden crush emerges. Take into that fact that he's the enemy and now you've got a doubly forbidden crush. And what girl hasn't had a crush on a boy that she knows she shouldn't? Hmm...

Then there's Cassie's brothers, Hunter/Hector and Perry/Paris, who were so thick-headed that it makes you want to strangle them! But what sibling doesn't want to kill, metaphorically speaking of course, their unfortunate blood relative?

There are fun moments. Moments that made you scream, "What in the world is wrong with these people!?!" and best of all were the moments that had you biting your nails because you just wanted to know what happens!

This book was sooo amazing that I finished it in less than four hours! I came home from school, checked the mailbox, opened the package from Ms. Norris and immediately went at it. I was finished by SEVEN!

If you haven't read this book yet, GO GET IT NOW!

It deserves 5/5 stars.
